Graphing Equations 1


A pool has 2 inches of water in it. We are adding water at 3 inches per hour. We can write an equation to represent the height in inches of the level of the water in the pool by y=3x+2. Y is the height of the water in the pool and X is the time in hours.



Ex. 1 Find how high the water is in the pool after 0,1,2 and 3 hours. Make a table and graph.

Try graphing y=x+3 on your own. Use the points 0,1,2 and 3 for your x values. Fill in the table below. Make sure you leave no spaces in the answer. When you are finished, click the Mark Table button. (ie. if x=4 you would fill in 4,4+3,7,(4,7))Graph the equation on graph paper. Then click the down arrow in the graph below and highlight x+3. See if it matches your graph. When you are finished, try y=x or y=-2x-2 and check them in the graph below.
